About Alex
In order for Alex to become a well trained reader he did multiple things. He read himself and was read to. A combination of both aspects created the powerhouse reader that he is today. In Alex's mind other people read for many reasons as well. According to him, some people read to relax and get a release from the situation that they currently are in while some just read because they enjoy the thrill of passing the time engrossed into the newest novel. There are many reasons to read but it all began with the first steps, learning, being read to, and finally reading. Alex thinks that in order to be a good reader you just have to enjoy the act of reading. Without the "buy in" to a book, you can not take part in the story of that particular novel. If someone just despises reading then they are not buying into the "gimmick" of the extraordinary feelings within a story. Reading comes easy with a good book and a quiet place to read it. It is impossible for Alex to read in a noisy place just because concentration is hard to come by in that sort of place. The only other thing that he needs is a good book that can retain someone's attention and make them want to keep reading after that person need to move on to other tasks that day. For Alex, the hardest part of reading is finding that book. It is a terrible task that can take quite a bit of time, and if you start reading the wrong book you loose interest after the first three chapters and are there thinking to yourself "why did I start reading this?" It is an adventure worth taking and pays off when you actually find the right book. In order to cut the travel time, Alex normally falls back to books within a series. If he had already read book 7 in a series he would go and start reading book 1 than 2 and so on. Since most books in the same series are similar in style, Alex's book travels are somewhat short. Currently he is hooked on The Tom Clancy series. Although Alex does not read that much at home, he still feels that he is a strong and confident reader. He likes to pick out larger and rather intimidating stories and enjoys that challenge as well as plot line that comes with it.
The way that Alex became a writer is somewhat different. He took the skills that others gave him through practice and repetition. The best way to become a well versed writer is just to write. The act of doing it creates the environment necessary to become a writer. In Alex's mind, people write for a large assortment of reasons. Many people, in his mind, write to express their emotions, organize their thoughts, or even just to travel away from where they are right now. People also write to entertain an audience and to make others happier and their day just that little bit more eventful. In order to write well someone just has to put emotion into the work that they are going. According to Alex, as long as the author puts part of themselves into their work, that puts them on track to becoming a good writer. Alex enjoys writing lists, stories, research papers, as well as persuasive pieces. These themes of writing do not tend to be the most popular but Alex enjoys them. When Alex gets an idea it normally comes from his gut or his brain. Logical or impulsive are how most of his works happen. In order for him to write practically anything, part of his legacy or himself has to be within or around the work. Alex thinks that he is a decent writer, not the best but not the worst. This idea comes mostly from the lack of frequency of him writing creative pieces instead of organizational lists and whatnot. All-in-all, he thinks that he is a well rounded and put together reader and writer.
