Grendel-Grendel of the epic poem Beowulf is a demon/monster of the earth. He was banished there due to his actions of his father Cain (whom committed the first murder) which he was the last decedent of. Grendel is a being of violence and evil coming and "haunting" certain lands. In the spirit of revenge for his banishment, Grendel would come from the mist and while the warriors were sleeping after a party, he would kill them, take their bodies back to his lair, and eat them while rubbing their flesh on the walls. Grendel could be considered erratic in behavior. Beowulf-Beowulf withing the epic poem titled Beowulf was a hero of the lands. He is a hero with relatively greedy intentions. Beowulf crosses large masses of water after he hears word of the monster Grendel attacking and killing warriors. Beowulf was mainly motivated by personal gain and publication. If you wanted him to do something, you would have to give him something for him to do it. Beowulf could be seen as rude but he also has many heroic traits Comparison-Beowulf and Grendel are both trying to repay someone for something, Grendel is repaying God and the people with death and violence while Beowulf is repaying the king due to him preventing a war. Both characters are somewhat greedy in the ways that they do things, but both have what you could call heroic characteristics for their cause.

The sense of evil shows its self in certain actions and objects. For something to be evil id does not have to be an animate object, for example you could call a video game evil, or a food evil if you thing that it is. On the contrary, on some occasions things pertain a false sense of being evil; going back to my video game example, that game could be evil because no matter how hard you try you can’t and won’t succeed, but in most circumstances, it’s just your own incompetence. Calling something evil is generally a term or phrase used to denounce something that you often don’t like. On rare occasions something could be genuinely evil. People state that Dr. Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory) is evil due to his actions and the way he thinks and or does things. But I would like to bring up something. Is being evil uniform? Is what is evil to you, evil to me? Having or being evil comes and goes and is only determined by how someone perceives it. I do not believe in any aspects of the theory of fate because I believe in choice. How can everything you or someone does in their life be previously planned in some way? It’s a crazy thought to think that I was destined to write this blog post or you were destined to read it. It is so crazy that I think it is implausible and completely impossible feat to think of. How many different choices can fate choose? No one is limited in the amount of choices they can make. Planning a life is not like planning a story; you can’t just decide the plot, setting and theme of a life. There are many different aspects of life that can’t be planned. Can you plan a reaction, emotion, thought? The thing is, I believe that the choices you make can determine and change your fate. For example, if someone makes the choice to start smoking or drinking or become a sky-jumper, those choices change weather they will die by falling, lung cancer, or liver cancer, but these choices are not predetermined. A true hero is someone who goes above the call of duty in an exceptional way. A hero is not just someone who is nice and kind, but someone who repeatedly hold the door, cleans after other, and things of that nature. Heroes are, in my opinion, people that do little things everyday that most people would not do. These little tasks may go unnoticed but the heroes continue to do it. This scale of heroism could be expanded to a larger globe of influence. At this larger scale, small tasks are more noticeable and get recognized but they have the same weight at the smaller scale items. Something like a police officer pushing someone out of the way of an oncoming car, a soldier taking a bullet for a team member, or walking an elderly person across the street all involve the same attributes that a true hero has. A hero is not just someone who does something extremely impressive but someone who does the things that they want done for them. Heroes are kind and outgoing people of all social spheres of the world. Anyone can be a hero |
